Billy Cook won At 14-1 on 'Rainbird'.
Fred Rainbird was a bloke serving on our ship the 'K G V'.

I dont do horses ever, lived next to happy valley R/C in honkers for over two years.

Would never happen these days.

Happy Valley does a huge Melb Cup event and all the expats go.

Ann. I was serving on HMS King George V, a 38,000 ton Battlleship which was visiting Melbourne at the time of 45 M/ Cup.
I had fallen down a hatch Sept 28, While de-ammunitioning ship before repairs could be carried out in dry dock in Sydney, the quick visit to Melbourne was an excuse to test out the ship's steering problems.

No attention from nurses in Melbourne. But an intense short lived romance was to follow in Sydney until my departure to UK Jan-6-46. Exotic memories.

Or should I have said 'Erotic Memories'
